Frequently Asked Questions

What makes The Bridge different from a traditional gap program or therapeutic treatment center?

Traditional gap programs offer travel without clinical depth, while residential treatment centers restrict real-world autonomy. The Bridge combines 100% of the active immersion of a premier gap program with 100% of the doctoral-level mentorship of a clinical community in a framework we call Supportive Immersion.

What is Response-Ability?

Response-Ability is the practical capacity to generate adaptive, flexible responses to life's real-world challenges. Rather than giving young adults a rigid blueprint, our Life Laboratory helps them cultivate the internal confidence, executive habits, and problem-solving skills needed to navigate adulthood.

How long do students stay at The Bridge?

While the minimum stay is 4 months, the average length of enrollment is 8 months. This timeline allows students to progress from structured onboarding into independent apartment living during their final phase.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is The Bridge Coed?

The Bridge serves both young men and young women. While male and female students live in separate, fully equipped residential homes in Atenas, they regularly come together for shared programming. Students collaborate across workshops, student-led clubs, community service initiatives, academic coursework, and weekend recreation, combining the safety and focus of single-gender housing with the social realism of a coed community environment.

Where are the students residences located?

Our campuses are located in safe, welcoming residential neighborhoods in Atenas, Costa Rica (just 25 minutes from Juan Santamaría International Airport in San José). We operate separate, fully equipped houses for young men and young women, along with independent transition apartments for senior students preparing for graduation.

What does a typical weekly schedule look like?

Students participate in at least 25 to 35+ weekly hours of constructive engagement. A typical week balances:

  • Real-world internships across 40+ local business and community partners.
  • Skill-building workshops (including finance, automotive care, industrial arts, cooking, and Spanish culture).
  • Academic coursework for college credit or high school diploma completion.
  • Student-led clubs, community living responsibilities, and outdoor weekend Aventuras.

Is The Bridge a drug-and alcohol-free environment?

Yes. To foster emotional safety, personal accountability, and healthy peer relationships, all Bridge residences, campuses, and community activities operate strictly as drug- and alcohol-free environments.

 ♡  Clinical Support & Admissions

Frequently Asked Questions

What level of Clinical Support is provided?

Students receive 24-hour relational staff support, weekly individual sessions with licensed therapists, twice-weekly reflection groups, guided family communication, and access to psychiatric consultations.

Who is the ideal student for The Bridge?

We serve emerging adults (ages 17-23) who are ready to practice self-governance. Many arrive seeking direction, recovering from burnout, or wanting to master executive functioning, anxiety management, and social communication.

What profile are not suited for the program?

Because our students live in an open, town-integrated environment in Costa Rica, we cannot accept individuals with active suicidality, primary unmanaged drug addiction, personality disorders requiring acute containment, or violent behavior.

When can a student enroll at The Bridge?

We offer flexible rolling admissions throughout the year. Students can join our community at multiple entry points based on individual readiness and program capacity, rather than being locked into a strict traditional semester schedule.

 ▤  College Credit & Tuition

Frequently Asked Questions

Can we use 529 College Savings Plans to pay for tuition?

Yes. Through our academic partnership with Western Colorado University (WCU), students can enroll in accredited college courses (earning up to 9 transferrable credits). This partnership allows families to disburse 529 savings directly to WCU to cover both college credit tuition and full program fees at The Bridge.

Are college credits earned at The Bridge transferable?

Yes. College courses are accredited through Western Colorado University and cover practical topics in leadership, cross-cultural studies, and executive development (taught directly by Director Dr. Danny Recio). Credits transfer easily to most four-year universities across the United States.
