schedule & Lifestyle

productive with purpose
After completing a "Healthy Lifestyle Plan" during Base (orientation), students complete their own individual schedule every week, making sure that they balance addressing goals and steps from their Healthy Lifestyle Plan which is based on the 8 dimensions of young adult success, as well as making time for productive leisure (e.g. learning a new skill, socializing), and unproductive leisure time (e.g. watching TV, social media).
In general, a weekly schedule at The Bridge is divided into three types of days:
  • Group days (Monday and Friday afternoons): on these afternoons, students and staff meet for group projects, mindfulness meditation, workshops and community meetings. While advanced students may go to internship or attend their own personal goals, priority is given to accomplishing group tasks.
  • Individualized days (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday): On these days, students’ schedules depend on their goals and program phase, and may be completely different from one another. While one student may be at their internship from 8am to 5pm, another may have been to community service, at high school classes in the morning, Spanish immersion or classes, and/or played sports during that same time period.
  • Weekends: Students have a budget and are in charge of putting together a fun set of activities on Saturday, from going to the beach for surfing or kayaking, going to a concert or festival in the city, or just going to the mall for dinner and a movie.

On Sundays, students focus on cultural immersion and either attend a cultural activity in town or visit their own homestay family. Students may choose to work on weekends as well, if their internships are highly active during those days.

Testimonial

“The weekly summaries have introduced me to the idea of a productive week. The ability to create my own schedule has presented a good representation of how I’ll manage my schedule in college.”
